Dear Members of The St. Paul’s Schools Community
As we shared earlier this year, the 2018-19 academic year will be Penny Evins’ final year as Head of School at SPSG. We are endlessly grateful for her visionary leadership and service, and we applaud her as she accepts an exceptional opportunity as Head of Collegiate School in Richmond, VA. Collegiate boasts 1,680 boys and girls in grades JK-12 and was founded in 1915 as an all-girls school. Nationally recognized as an extraordinary model of independent school education, Collegiate faculty and staff are award-winning professionals who receive accolades for teaching innovation, program development, thought leadership, and more. Please join us in congratulating Penny and her family on the next step in her career.
This summer we have begun the search for a new Head of School at St. Paul’s School for Girls. We are pleased to share an update on our progress.
The search committee was formed earlier this summer, consisting of current and former members of the Board of Trustees. This group is committed to finding the right person to lead SPSG during this exciting period in our schools’ history and we are delighted that they have agreed to serve:
- Carl Pohlhaus, SPS ’83; SPS P’15 ’18; SPSG P’23 – Co-Chair, Co-Secretary, Board of Trustees
- Kelly Nocher Riepe, SPSG ’01; Plus P – Co-Chair, Trustee
- Joanne Bartlett – CEO, Board of Trustees
- Liz Robinson, SPS P’16 ’20 – President, Board of Trustees
- Crystal Edwards, SPSG ’93 – Former Trustee
- Kathleen Gavin, SPSG ’79; SPS P’15 – Trustee
- Keith Murray, SPSG P’25 – Trustee
- Jim Vlk, SPSG P’09 – Trustee
The search will be national in scope; the position description will be posted on the SPSG and SPS websites, as well as the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), and other national organizations. We are in search of a candidate who would assume the position for the 2019-20 school year, alongside the new President of The St. Paul’s Schools. As we work to identify important qualifications and characteristics in the next head of school, community input is essential. Please take the time to complete this online survey. The committee will use these responses to assist in assessing potential candidates.
Unlike the previous Head of School search, this will be a “closed” process to protect the confidentiality of our candidates. In order to maintain this confidentiality, we will be keeping their identities private until the final stages of the hiring process. This type of search allows us to pursue candidates who are perhaps unwilling to publicly apply for a variety of reasons but would be very interested in the position.
We will periodically share updates on our progress, however, if you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us directly at HOSsearch@spsfg.org.
