Welcome From Our Chaplain
As an Episcopal school, our roots trace back to 1799 when the Benevolent Society of the City and County of Baltimore, founded by a group of parishioners from Old St. Paul’s Church, established an institution for poor or orphaned girls.
SPSG is a school that values the Episcopal tradition and encourages spiritual exploration and growth in all of our students. We see every child as a child of God, and our girls are united by strong relationships and a sense of community. Each student is encouraged to find her own voice and celebrate her individuality.
Since we embrace Christianity and this tradition as our foundation, we believe God calls us to follow Christ’s example of inclusivity, compassion and love for all. At SPSG, the sharing of individual philosophies and perspectives is encouraged in an intellectually challenging and supportive environment. Our girls mature into confident, independent young women, who learn how to advocate for themselves and others, as we grow citizenship and character. Each time we gather, there is an opportunity to reflect and learn about the gifts and challenges of living as a community through our relationship with God and with one another. As a community, we live in relationships to one another, to God, and to self. We care for one another and get to know one another and these relationships are profound. This shapes our approach to discipline, how we cultivate leadership, the ways that we tap the gifts of all students, and how we walk alongside our students.
