Welcome, from the Parents’ Association!
On behalf of the St. Paul’s School for Girls Parents’ Association, we extend a warm welcome to new and returning SPSG families for our 2019-2020 school year.
The Parents’ Association’s mission is to serve the school through our various fundraising and volunteer efforts and to promote school spirit, communication, and cooperation within the SPSG community. Throughout the year, the Parents’ Association organizes programs and events supporting the School’s overall mission and goals. While all parents of SPSG students are automatically members of the Parents’ Association, we invite you to become actively involved with us to strengthen our community! Our success is a direct result of our families volunteering their time, talent, and resources. We consider it a privilege to partner with one another and the School to develop a strong sense of community. Our parents benefit from supportive faculty and administration and have many opportunities to develop deep and lasting relationships with other families and with our School.
Gretchen Carroll, President
Gretchen and her husband, Tom, have two girls, Lindsay ’20 and Charlotte ’26. Her background is in education with a M.Ed. in School Counseling. She has served in various school settings, working as a school counselor at the elementary level and been a part of Girl Scouts as a troop leader, cookie mom, and treasurer. Gretchen has been an active volunteer at SPSG, serving as chair of the SPSG International Block Party, Admissions Ambassador and a Blingo Bingo committee member, and at SPSG's school store, The Swamp and most recently as the Vice-President of the Parent Association. She has also recently served as a woman’s small group leader at the Church of the Nativity. Gretchen is looking forward to continuing to serve in a leadership role with the PA.
Missy Salihi Smith ’92, Vice PresidentMissy and her husband Eric have two daughters, Kaylin ’21 and Avery ’24. Missy has served as Class Coordinator, Admissions Volunteer, member of the Swamp Soiree planning committee, and currently serves as the class of 1992 Class Secretary. She is also the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Alumna Award. She is a proud alumna and enjoys her continued close relationship with SPSG.

Tammy and her husband, Scott, have one daughter, Genevieve ’20. Her background is in Ancient Egyptian art, archaeology, and ancient history, with a Ph.D. in Egyptology. She has taught at several colleges in the Baltimore area and has led trips abroad to Egypt, London, Paris, and Berlin for her students and their parents. Tammy has been a regular parent volunteer in the St. Paul’s Lower School, and the SPSG Middle and Upper Schools. She has chaperoned field trips, been a guest speaker on the topic of Ancient Egypt for many SPSG classes, and volunteered for cast dinners, Blingo Bingo, International Block Party, Grandparent’s Day, and many other SPSG events. Tammy is looking forward to continuing her role as Parent Volunteer Coordinator with the PA.
Jeanette Guy, Past President
Jeanette and her husband, Steve, have three children, Gracie ’22, Jackson, SP ’21, and Matthew, SP '25. Her background is in corporate recruiting and marketing, and she has also served as PA President, Co-President, and a chairperson in various school settings over the last 10 years. Jeanette has volunteered on the Swamp Soiree committee, a parent ambassador for the admissions office and most recently as President of the Parents Association.
September 25: Parents' Association Open House
Wednesday, September 25 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
A casual evening for parents new and “old” to gather, learn about events, initiatives and volunteer opportunities for the ’19-’20 school year. It is a “fair” style event in the Commons where parents visit tables with representatives from all areas of school life. Beer, wine and light appetizers provided.
October 4: Gator Open Tennis Tournament
Friday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
All-skill-level doubles tournament for women and men at the SPSG and Homeland tennis courts, followed by a seated luncheon in the Graduation Garden.

A 24-hour online social media giving drive benefitting The Gator Fund.
November 11-25: Holiday Greens Sale

November 23: Mother/Daughter/Special Friends Blingo Bingo
Saturday, November 23 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Commons
An afternoon of bingo, prize baskets, and fun for students and their mothers/special friends. Registration opens October 15, and tickets will be available for purchase at spsfg.org/bingo.
November 25: Middle School Grandfriends’ Day
Monday, November 25 from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the Performance Gym & Classrooms
Grandparents and special friends of Middle School students are invited to visit SPSG for a special chapel service, arts performance, and classroom visits. Please visit spsfg.org/grandfriends to update the mailing address for the grandfriends of your Middle School Student(s).
November 27: Parent Education Night
Wednesday, October 27 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
An evening of education, community building, and conversation for the parent body. Experts on a variety of topics from socio-emotional needs to sports, and college-preparation to diversity, will be conducting workshops.
December 4: NYC Bus Trip
Wednesday, December 4 from 6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. in New York City
The Parents’ Association will host the inaugural bus trip to NYC. Round trip bus fare and on-the-go breakfast included. Recommendations for Broadway show and NYC activities included. Registration open October 7, and tickets will be available for purchase at spsfg.org/nycbus.
December 6: Holiday Bazaar
Friday, December 6 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. in the Performance & Price Gymnasiums
Shop from a wonderful array of local vendors, as well as well unique gifts and food from student and club tables.
February 5: Open PA Meeting

February 29: The Swamp Soiree

An all-community event including dinner, dancing and auction to benefit The Gator Fund and alumnae-sponsored scholarships. Registration opens December 15, and tickets will be available for purchase at spsfg.org/swampsoiree.
April 3: International Block Party
Friday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. in The Ward Center
The annual SPSG/SP International Block Party honors the international heritage in our communities. Students, faculty, alumni, and friends alike gather to share their cultural heritage by cooking traditional dishes, wearing national garb, demonstrating their homeland's music and dance, and sharing stories.
May 14: Father/Daughter/Special Friends Bull Roast
Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. on The Ward Center Lawn
An evening of games, great food, and prizes for fathers/special friends and their daughters. Registration opens April 1, and tickets will be available for purchase by visiting spsfg.org/bullroast.
May 19: Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast

Volunteers needed for event assistance with the Gator Tennis Open, as well as parent participation needed for each varsity team to assist with senior day, and other duties as needed.
Volunteers needed to promote campus events and online registration, as well as taking photos for on/off campus and athletic events.
Assist in messaging and logistics of Development Office events and Gator Fund initiatives.
Library / Archives
Assistance needed processing, shelving books, and volunteering for the Scholastic Book Fair.
Volunteers wanted to help sew or build set pieces for dance concerts and plays.
The Ward Center theatre and dance performances: ushers needed. | Coffee/Cocoa House: organize, promote three upper school events per year, and assist with light refreshments.
Help make SPSG a greener, more sustainable and environmentally compatible school.
Share your vocation or avocation with students as it relates to current curriculum and electives.
