Design Thinking Symposium

As part of the upcoming Green & White Weekend, we are thrilled to welcome five of our outstanding alumnae back to campus for a Design Thinking Symposium on Friday, May 5. Our Upper School students will hear from each alumna and learn more about her respective career during a panel discussion and Q&A session. Learn more about these five impressive women:
Hope C. Tarr '82
Hope C. Tarr is the award-winning author of 25 historical and contemporary novels, including Irish Eyes, set in Gilded through Jazz Age New York City. Her books have been translated into thirty languages including Spanish, Italian, German, Turkish, Slovene, and French. Prior to launching her writing career, Hope earned a Master's Degree in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Education, both from The Catholic University of America.

Meeghan Truelove '87
Meeghan Truelove is the Director of New Goods Operations at Schumacher, a 127-year-old, fifth-generation-owned company that specializes in high-end fabrics and wallpapers for the interior design industry. Prior to this, she had a long and fruitful run in the magazine world, serving as a staff editor for House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Veranda, and Travel+Leisure. Meeghan was a Wagley Scholar during her time at SPSG, and she earned her undergraduate degree from Williams College.

Kendell Shaffer '82
Kendell Shaffer has had a multifaceted career in film and television, joining the WGA in 2007 when she sold a TV pilot, Downtown, to ABC Studios and a TV movie, Team Julia, to Lifetime Television. Since 2008, she has taught writing workshops in high schools throughout Los Angeles for the Writer's Guild Foundation High School Screenwriting Program. In 2013, she published her first YA novel, Kalifornia Blu, which is now in development as a feature film.

Kendall's experience includes Visual Effects Coordinator for the Tom Cruise film, Knight and Day, as well as Associate Producer on Sirens for Showtime, King of the World for ABC, and Nash Bridges, Orleans, and Texarkana for CBS. She has also worked as Graphics Supervisor on CSI:NY and Visual Effects Supervisor on VR.5, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Titanic, the CBS mini-series. Kendall is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Maeve McKean '97
Maeve McKean is the Senior Research Policy Advisor for the USAID Translating Research to Action (TRAction) Project through the City University of New York School of Public Health. Previously, she served as the Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Rights, as well as the Senior Advisor for Human Rights at the State Department's Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator. Maeve graduated from Georgetown University where she received a joint degree from Georgetown Law as well as a Master's Degree from the Walsh School of Foreign Service. Early in her career, Maeve served in the Peace Corps in Mozambique, worked for a US Senator on Capitol Hill, and worked as a legal fellow through Georgetown's Women's Law and Public Policy Fellowship Program.

Christine Soderstrom '87
Chris Soderstrom has spent decades advocating for public lands conservation, the last 20 of those years on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. She has been employed by Trout Unlimited, Wild Salmon Center, Alaska Coalition, and National Trust for Historic Preservation. She successfully lead the campaign to congressionally codify America's newest system of protected lands, the 27 million acre Conservation Lands and helped to established the Conservation Lands Foundation. For the past six years she has run her own consulting firm. She holds a BA in Environmental Studies from University of Colorado, Boulder and an MS in Environmental Policy from American University.
