International Exchange Trips

In accordance with the mission of St. Paul’s School for Girls to prepare girls to “embrace the extraordinary opportunities of our complex world,” SPSG will offer a variety of cultural exchange opportunities for the academic year.  In the coming school year, SPSG will welcome student groups from our sister schools in China, Argentina, Australia, France, and Japan. We will also provide an opportunity for our students to visit our Chinese, Japanese, French, Scottish, and Argentinian sister schools this year.

For more information on any of these trips or to host an exchange student, please contact Janet Wolfe.

Marseille, France, Collège et lycée Marseilleveyre

The SPSG / Lycée Marseilleveyre Exchange is a 10-day trip to Marseilles and Paris, France. The primary objective of the SPSG / Marseilleveyre Exchange is to provide upper-school SPSG and SP students currently studying French the opportunity of experiencing France as an exchange student at SPSG’s sister school, the Lycée Marseilleveyre, located in the second largest French city of Marseilles.

While each student will live with a family and his/her host student and attend school on two days, SPSG/SP students will also have the opportunity to take the high-speed train, TGV, to Paris and visit such sights as the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower as a group. Program participants will visit Marseilles, as well as the neighboring Provençal town of Aix-en-Provence with the SPSG/SP delegation. Students will experience French life, practice their language skills, and live French culture as part of living with a French family.

Yokohama, Japan, Suiryo High School

The primary objective of the SPSG/Yokohama Suiryo Exchange is to provide SPSG students the opportunity of experiencing Japan as an exchange student at SPSG’s sister school, the Yokohama Suiryo School, located in the second largest Japanese city of Yokohama. While each student will live with a family and her host student and attend school on eight days, SPSG students will also have the opportunity to go to Tokyo and visit such sights as the Sensoji Temple and the Tokyo Tower as a group. Program participants will experience Japanese life, practice their language skills, and live Japanese culture as part of living with a Japanese family.

Fettes College, Edinburgh, Scotland

In coordination with St. Paul's School, we are pleased to announce a new cultural exchange opportunity with Fettes College, near Edinburgh, Scotland. Fettes Collegeis a co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 13-18, located in Edinburgh, Scotland. Fettes College was founded in 1870 as a school for orphans and the sons of needy parents. The school has a reputation for academic and athletic excellence and is the only school in Scotland which offers its students the choice of taking the International Baccalaureate or the more specialized national A level courses.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

SPSG sends two juniors to our sister school in Argentina, St. George College School, Quilmes, Argentina.  We will also welcome two students from St. George. Girls who travel to Argentina usually host the exchange students upon their arrival.

Hangzhou, China, Hangzhou Entel Foreign Language School

Students visit SPSG's sister school in China, the Hangzhou ENTEL Foreign Language School in Hangzhou. The first half of this trip focuses on sightseeing and exploring Beijing, including Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and Great Wall.  Students will then have a chance to experience school in China at our sister school and to visit other cities.

Welcoming a student from another country into your home is a wonderful opportunity to engage with your daughter in learning about another culture. These opportunities to host are open to students of SP and SPSG.

Service Learning Trips

Service Learning Trip to Heifer International

Each summer, SPSG offers a summer service learning trip at the Heifer International Learning Center at Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA. Here, SPSG students have the opportunity to learn about the mission of Heifer International, which is “To work with communities to end hunger and poverty while caring for the world.” During the week, girls participate in the life of the farm by caring for animals, tending the gardens, doing farm chores, and helping the staff. Through all of their experiences, they learn about hunger, sustainability, the global economy, fair trade, organic and local farming practices, as well as different cultures. Midweek, they spend one day and night in Heifer’s Global Village, where they experience daily life in a culture different from their own. It is quite a powerful trip and the girls who have gone in the past have been extremely moved by their time there.

Students earn 40 hours of direct community service for participating in this trip.

Middle School Spring Break Trip to Costa Rica

Every few years over Spring Break, SPSG offers an exciting opportunity for seventh and eighth grade students to journey southward for an adventure in environmental stewardship and culture in Costa Rica, Central America. They learn about local wildlife while hiking through rain forests, assist sea turtle populations while saving their eggs from poachers, and learn a new culture while visiting with an indigenous community. This trip is coordinated by EcoTeach, which has specialized in educational trips to Costa Rica since 1994.

Saints International Travel

Every other year, over Spring Break, the upper-school choral group, the Saints, travel abroad to perform and explore. Most recently, the Saints traveled to Paris and performed in the Notre Dame Cathedral.
